ArchFrame is one of the world’s most prestigious awards platforms in the field of architecture. The jury itself investigates projects on a worldwide scale, which are distinguished by modern architectural technologies, respond to the demands of globalization, organically merge with the environment and have effective visuals.
On the ArchFrame Award page, the list of 2021 winners includes many distinguished and interesting architectural works from around the world. Among them there are 3 projects from Georgia, which are the work of the Artitex team.
Regarding Old City Panorama, we read the following information on the website:
Tbilisi is a city where, from the point of view of urban development, the first concern is the adaptation of the architecture of the real estate to the existing environment, taking into account the landscape, preserving the history of the surrounding buildings, which in most cases requires a distinctive and unique approach.
The city is located on a terraced terrain, which requires an individual architectural solution. Such an approach makes the landscape diverse, attractive and interesting for all types of buildings.
Hanging gardens with an automatic irrigation system contribute to the vertical development of the landscape and blend aesthetically with the exterior of the building. Instead of massive concrete buildings, the Old City Panorama project gives the city a new look and contributes to the architectural development of Tbilisi.
The main part of the building consists of 4 floors, which is placed vertically on the landmark of the highest point of the terrain. The rest of the building is accordingly adapted to the terraced landscape, creating an additional 4 floors on the slope.
The building includes both residential apartments and commercial spaces in old Tbilisi. There are 2 types of residential areas, apartments and so-called Areas similar to “Town House”.
Residential buildings are connected to each other by bridges. Given the modern way of life, common spaces in residential complexes of Tbilisi become even more important, allowing people to connect with each other and enjoy closeness and interaction. Each building has a flat roof that is used for different purposes. “We decided to go with the principle of green roofing, with an outdoor swimming pool to encourage and promote a healthy lifestyle,” says project architect Daduna Shatashvili.
Such an architectural solution and design helps the city preserve the appearance of the natural landscape, while adding functionality to the roof. We believe that such an approach is very necessary for the urban development of the city, both functionally and aesthetically.
